Going dark is military lingo for the sudden termination of communication. The term used to describe a scenario in which communication appears to have ceased, but in reality has just moved from a public communication channel, where it could be monitored, to a private communication channel that prevents eavesdropping.

In the fitness world ‘going dark’ means disappearing or falling off the grid while you obtain your fitness goal.

This is the most popular definition of the term ‘Going Dark’ on Google.  I’m going to use this term in a kind of transformational way.  Losing the amount of body weight is going to be a massive challenge and I will need a type of concentration, dedication and focus that I have never really displayed before.  To achieve this goal I will need to prioritize my weight loss journey and not become distracted.

The main reason why I’m doing this is so I can really focus on this journey, but there is another reason and it’s my biggest motivation.  Gaining this much weight and really letting go of the rope physically is mentally devastating and extremely ego bruising.  I don’t really go out in public much anymore because simply I don’t want people to see me like this.  The only time I go out is when I need to go to the store.  I really do blame no one but myself however we do live in an world where everything can be delivered to your home, food, liquor, entertainment, everything.  Now, I know that is not healthy and I’m missing out on life by not going out and it is most definitely avoiding the problem.  However, I am temporarily going to use that to my advantage.

I’m going to use this opportunity to make massive changes.  Kind of like creating a cocoon around myself while I’m creating the changes I want.

No going out

No parties

No meeting new people

No hanging out with friends

No movie nights with drinks

Nothing

Nothing… but… going to war, with myself.

Next… The 80/20 Rule.
